1970s Smoked Glass & Chrome Tubular Coffee Table
Description
A striking 1970s coffee table with a smoked glass top and beautifully simple tubular chrome frame.
The frame is formed from a continuous sweeping tube, creating two broad U-shaped supports connected by a long central rail beneath the glass. It gives the table a very light, architectural appearance while remaining substantial in scale.
The smoked glass works particularly well with the chrome, giving it that unmistakable late 1960s/1970s modernist look. There are definite echoes of Italian and German furniture from the period, with the emphasis very much on material and form rather than decoration.
A particularly good piece for a contemporary interior. Despite its generous size, the transparent construction means it doesn't visually dominate a room.
The chrome remains bright and presents well, with age-related wear consistent with a vintage piece. The smoked glass is also in good vintage condition with some light surface marks.
